A downloadable game for Windows

Eclipse War: Blessings of the Fell Star is my take on the Fire Emblem formula. It is currently a little barebones, but it features turn-based tactical RPG combat that should feel familiar to anyone who has dabbled in the genre before. Playing with a trackpad is not recommended, since middle mouse click  is used for checking stats. Currently the game only supports KB+M controls.

In this game, you play as a group known as Evelyn's Mercenaries on the continent of Aeaea, where the flames of war are just starting to flicker once more. You will learn more about the world and characters as you fight your way through brigands, witches, and other foes.

Keep in mind the game does contain some (very poorly drawn) gore.

For those who have played my previous demo, here is most of what has changed since my last iteration:

  • All 2d art assets improved.
  • Controls indicator along the bottom of the screen.
  • Keyboard traversal for most menus.
  • New Indicators for when you move into an enemies range.
  • All maps have been reworked and rebalanced.
  • Introduction of a skill system, though it is currently a bit basic.
  • Various bugfixes and optimizations, the game generally plays much faster now.
  • Multiple new playable units.
  • Expanded and more fleshed out story.

Here are a few known issues:

  • Enemy AI occasionally makes very bad moves, like attacking one unit even though they could kill another.
  • Under some circumstances the enemies around the chapter 2 boss can bug out and not move, though I don't know how to reproduce this issue yet.
  • Inventory menu will sometimes have unintended behavior with the keyboard movement, like the selection hovering over an empty item slot, or not being able to hover over an item with WASD. This is purely visual and using the mouse to click instead should work if you're unable to select an item.
  • Tooltips for some items are sometimes bugged in some menus, and may not appear in the right spot on the screen.
  • Using both the keyboard and mouse controls for the save/load menus at the same time can lead to unintended behavior.
  • Moving around the cursor quickly on larger maps with lower end hardware can cause some lag. This is because of the pathfinding calculations needed for the red aggro lines. I'm sure there's a more efficient way to do it because FE: Engage does it fine on switch but I'm still working on optimizations for that functionality.
  • If a unit dies in the mock battle, they will have 0 or negative HP on the next map if you don't save, so just save after the first map and you should be good. (I've already fixed this on my end but I don't want to hotpatch it because I want to do more extensive testing first)

If you finish the demo, make sure to hit the "Extras" button on the main menu when you are done.
